livin by the coast

It is so sweet to be able to ride our bikes four blocks and go for a quick surf. The downside is that we rarely drive to spots where we might bet better surf. But the plus side is we spend much less time in the car and surfing becomes less of a time commitment as it is when you drive to find surf.
Here are some shots of a recent session Anke had. I just happend to ride up as she caught this wave. It closed out but was a nice drop.
As is typical at our beach, the waves end up being bigger and more powerful than they appear from the beach - another plus in our book for if nothing else at least they provide a workout.
Besides getting a workout there are other reasons to enjoy the paddle even when the waves aren't so good - the view of our gorgeous beach and mountains is a reminder of how lucky we are to live where we do, getting wet always feels good, and we often share the session with the local wildlife such as pelicans and seals. Recently Anke even spent a half an hour with a California Gray Whale hanging in the lineup - getting as close as 10 feet from her and the one other surfer in the water that day.
